FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A Fresno firefighter remains hospitalized with severe burns after falling through a roof while battling a house fire.

KCRA (https://bit.ly/1NyFHl8 ) reports the Fresno firefighter Pete Dern remains in critical condition Monday at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

Fresno Fire Department spokesman Agapito Martinez says the 25-year veteran of the Fresno Fire Department suffered second- and third-degree burns to 65 to 75 percent of his body.

Martinez says Dern went to the roof of a garage that was engulfed in flames to ventilate the structure with a pole when the roof collapsed and he fell through. He was trapped for one to three minutes.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. Fire officials said it does not appear to have been started intentionally.
