CICERO, N.Y. (AP) - Police have ruled the death of a couple in suburban Syracuse a murder-suicide.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office tells media outlets that 45-year-old Michael Hodell shot his 46-year-old wife, Bridgette, and then shot himself. Autopsies were done on Monday.

Sheriff’s spokesman Jon Seeber says the shooting apparently happened several hours before the couple was discovered by deputies who had been sent to the home in the town of Cicero around 3 p.m. Sunday.

The sheriff’s office was alerted by a co-worker of Bridgette Hodell after she failed to show up for work at a Williams-Sonoma store in the Destiny USA mall.

Seeber said detectives are trying to determine the motive for the crime.
