DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) - Criminal arrests in the Old West gambling town of Deadwood in 2014 dropped by 24 percent from the previous year.

Police Chief Kelly Fuller says officers made 436 arrests last year, down from 575 in 2013.

Fuller attributes some of the drop to work by officers, including school resource officers. He says part of the decrease also is circumstantial. He says methamphetamine arrests dropped substantially last year, but police know the illegal drug continues to be a “huge” problem in the area.

The Black Hills Pioneer reports (https://bit.ly/1Eq19HF ) that while total arrests were down in the city, felony arrests remained unchanged at 33.
