HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - DeSoto County students, who got several unexpected holidays because of the weather this year, won’t have to make up those days, after all.

The Commercial Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/1F3TuvV) the district has received a State Department of Education exemption for dates lost because of inclement weather, meaning that plans to make up lost days on Saturdays and at the end of the school year have been rescinded.

The district is awaiting word from the state Attorney General’s office on whether employees will have to make up the dates. If they do, Supt. Milton Kuykendall told employees in a memo this week that the days will be made up through professional development days that will allow employees to fulfill their workday requirements.
