HOUSTON (AP) - Part of a historic hamburger restaurant in Spring has been gutted by a fire.

A Spring fire official says the century-old Wunsche Bros. Cafe & Saloon was found ablaze around 4 a.m. on Sunday. No one was in the building at the time. The cause of the fire isn’t yet known.

Beth Vincent, the restaurant’s general manager, tells the Houston Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1IJbzki ), “This is really traumatic. It’s home. It’s home for a lot of people.”

Employees and customers gathered at the restaurant after the fire, recalling celebrations there, listing the German-inspired country dishes that drew patrons from around the world and naming musicians who played there.

The restaurant’s 1980s addition was gutted by the fire. The original building, a state historic site, still stands but has heat and smoke damage.
