SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Gov. Gary Herbert says he’s speaking with veterans about a proposal on his desk to name a section of Utah’s Veterans’ Memorial Highway after late state House Speaker Rebecca Lockhart.

Herbert told reporters on Monday that he’s heard from veterans who support and oppose the idea of adding Lockhart’s name to part of a section of Interstate 15 in Utah County.

A group of Vietnam veterans say they’re holding a motorcycle rally Monday evening at Utah’s State Capitol to urge Herbert to veto it.

The measure passed the Utah Legislature unanimously. Herbert has until Wednesday to approve or veto the bill.

Lockhart died of a rare brain disease on Jan. 17, less than three weeks after leaving office. She was 46.

The entire length of I-15 in Utah is designated Veterans’ Memorial Highway.
