SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A runoff will be needed to choose a successor for state Rep. Jose Menendez in a western San Antonio district.

The runoff will pit ex-Bexar (BEAR) County prosecutor Ina Minjarez against former San Antonio City Council member Delicia Herrera. Minjarez drew almost 42 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s special election for state House District 124 against almost 30 percent for Herrera.

Rounding out the vote totals were 22 percent for firefighter Nathan Alonzo and 6 percent for insurance agent David Rosa.

All are Democrats.

Menendez left the House seat in February to become a Texas senator after beating fellow San Antonio Democratic Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer to succeed state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, who left the Senate to run for San Antonio mayor.
