SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A day after addressing U.S. troops based at Fort Drum in northern New York, Defense Secretary Ash Carter is scheduled to visit the Syracuse University campus.

Carter is scheduled to speak Tuesday morning at a gathering of students and military families in the Melanie Gray Ceremonial Courtroom in Dineen Hall.

Before the gathering he’ll address a closed-door discussion with the university’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families. The Defense Department has launched a partnership with the institute and the Schultz Family Foundation for a program called Onward to Opportunity. The program will provide industry-specific training and job placement assistance for service members and spouses as the troops leave the military.

The Syracuse visit comes a day after Carter addressed troops at Fort Drum, home of the Army’s 10th Mountain Division.
