LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Lafayette police say a 51-year-old woman died when the SUV she was driving ran head-on into a large semi-truck.

The accident happened Monday afternoon.

Cpl. Paul Mouton said in a news release that Yvette Ford of Lafayette was traveling north of Surrey Street when her SUV cross the center and collided with the truck. Debris from the accident struck a third vehicle.

Mouton says Ford was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

He says the truck driver was treated for minor injuries and release. The driver of the third vehicle was not hurt.
