WALES, Maine (AP) - A Litchfield woman is facing charges for allegedly crashing her van while under the influence of alcohol and drugs with her 4-year-old son inside.

State police announced Monday that 33-year-old Kristy Cookson veered off the road and crashed into trees on Route 132 in Wales last week.

Rescue personnel had to use a chain saw to get mother and son out of the wrecked vehicle.

Cookson’s son was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries.

Cookson was taken to the hospital with a serious ankle injury, but was mistakenly discharged over the weekend and not arrested until Monday.

Police say Cookson is facing a fourth OUI charge and has 13 active driver’s license suspensions. It’s not clear if she has a lawyer.
