CINCINNATI (AP) - Thousands of people, including firefighters from other departments, are expected this week to mourn and pay tribute to a Cincinnati firefighter killed in the line of duty.

Visitation for 54-year-old Daryl Gordon starts Tuesday afternoon in the downtown convention center.

The 29-year firefighter died March 26 of injuries suffered when he fell down an elevator shaft while looking for people to rescue in an apartment blaze. Multiple investigations are underway into the fire’s origin and events leading to his death.

His funeral services will be Wednesday at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral, followed by a cemetery service and then a “celebration of life” back at the convention center.

Gordon is survived by a wife and two daughters.

His line-of-duty death was the city department’s first since 2003.
