NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The commander of the USNS Comfort’s medical treatment facility has been relieved of duty.

The Navy says in a news release that Rear Adm. Thomas K. Shannon relieved Capt. Rachel Haltner of her duties on Monday because of a loss of confidence in her ability to command.

The move is pending completion of an investigation of the command climate.

Capt. Christine Sears will assume command of the medical facility. Sears is fleet surgeon for the U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet.

The Navy says the medical facility’s executive officer, Capt. Miguel Cubano, temporarily assumed command until Sears arrives.

Haltner has commanded the facility since Aug. 27, 2013. She has been temporarily reassigned to Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth.
