GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - The state Court of Appeals has upheld the life sentence given a Gulfport woman in the death of her ex-boyfriend’s girlfriend.

Twonia Renee Williams was convicted in 2014 of murder in Harrison County in the fatal shooting of Katrina Sargent.

Williams was first convicted in 2009 but it was overturned because of faulty jury instructions.

Authorities say Sargent was shot in the face Dec. 5, 2009, in front of her home, in which her three children were sleeping.

Williams has never denied shooting Sargent. She had argued the shooting was accidental.

The Appeals Court said Tuesday two witnesses testified Williams exited her car, gun in hand and argued with Sargent, at some point shooting her. A firearms expert argued that the gun was designed to prevent accidental firing.
