BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say one man was killed and another wounded during a shootout between the two men at a traffic light in southwest Birmingham.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1Ki9n7Q) that the gunfire happened around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday on Pearson Avenue.

Birmingham police were dispatched to Princeton Baptist Medical Center, where hospital workers reported that two gunshot victims had shown up.

Birmingham police Lt. Sean Edwards said the man who died was in an off-and-on relationship for several years with a woman riding in a car with a couple of friends.

Edwards said that man walked up to the car and started shooting into it, hitting a man in the shoulder area. Police said the man who had been shot returned fire, striking the man who later died.
