LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Senate has voted to add state prosecutors to the list of elected officials whose salaries will be set by an independent panel approved by voters last year.

The Senate voted 33-0 Wednesday to place prosecutors’ salaries under the jurisdiction of the Independent Citizens Commission, which was formed to review and adjust salaries for legislators, constitutional officers and judges. The seven-member commission is voting later this month on a plan to more than double lawmakers’ salaries and grant substantial pay raises to other elected officials.

The legislation requires the commission to complete its review of prosecutors’ salaries within two months of the measure becoming effective.

The bill now heads to the House.
