MILWAUKEE (AP) - Authorities have identified an Appleton woman who was killed in a crash on U.S. Highway 41 in Brown County of northeastern Wisconsin while a winter storm brought snow and high winds to the state.

The crash happened about 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Town of Lawrence, southwest of De Pere.

The Hobart-Lawrence Police Department says 34-year-old Erin Cutsforth was driving north, lost control of her SUV, drove through the ditch and entered the southbound lanes. Her SUV collided with a truck driven by 23-year-old David Byrne, of De Pere.

Press-Gazette Media reports (https://gbpg.net/1M6BeoY ) Cutsforth died at the scene. Byrne’s truck caught fire. He escaped just before officers arrived and was taken to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Highway 41 was closed for about five hours while authorities investigated.
