ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A licensed nurse practitioner in Clovis has pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawfully dispensing the pain medication Oxycodone.

Prosecutors say 61-year-old David L. Jones, of Portales, made his initial appearance in federal court Wednesday in Albuquerque.

He was released pending trial on conditions of release under pretrial supervision.

According to the criminal complaint, Jones is a licensed nurse practitioner employed by a healthcare center in Clovis.

Federal drug agents received information from the Curry County Sheriff’s Department last October that Jones allegedly was illegally prescribing prescription controlled substances.

Last month, authorities say two confidential sources allegedly obtained prescriptions for Oxycodone from Jones.

If convicted in the case, prosecutors say Jones could face a federal prison sentence of up to 20 years.
