SNOHOMISH, Wash. (AP) - The Snohomish County sheriff’s office has closed the case of a Snohomish man who said he was shot by an intruder on Feb. 1 as he returned to his apartment after the Super Bowl.

Detectives believe the man who works as a security guard accidentally shot himself in the stomach with his own gun.

The Daily Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1M7Nhm0 ) the 22-year-old man is sticking with his story but declines to take a lie detector test.

Detectives say there was no sign of a break-in, and evidence didn’t match his version of events.

The sheriff’s office doesn’t intend to seek charges against the man because it says it has already spent too much time on his case.
