WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) - Retired college professor and former state legislator George Grayson died Wednesday. He was 76.

John McGlennon, a faculty colleague at the College of William and Mary, says the cause of death was an apparent heart attack.

Grayson was an emeritus professor of government at William and Mary. He retired in 2012 after more than 40 years of teaching.

He was a Democratic member of the Virginia House of Delegates for 27 years. He left office in 2001.
