HURRICANE, Utah (AP) - Schools in Hurricane, Utah were temporarily put on lockdown after a girl reported that a gun-wielding man tried to kidnap her.

The Spectrum newspaper in St. George reports (https://bit.ly/1CxIoAV ) that Hurricane Police say the incident occurred at about 8 a.m. at Hurricane High School.

The girl told school officials that a man pulled out a gun and told her to get in his car. She ran inside and reported what happened. Police are looking for the suspect.

Students at the high school and four other schools in the area were locked inside as a safety precaution. That lockout was lifted at about 11 a.m.

Hurricane is a city of about 15,000 residents in southern Utah, about 290 miles south of Salt Lake City.
