Vermont’s U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy says he’s sickened to hear about how U.S. Ambassador Mark Lippert was slashed on the face and wrist by a man wielding a knife with a 10-inch blade in South Korea.

Lippert is a former foreign policy aide to Leahy. The U.S. Department of State says Lippert’s injuries aren’t life threatening and he’s being treated at a hospital.

Leahy says he’s “heartsick about news reports about the senseless attack” on Lippert. The Democrat calls Lippert a devoted public servant.

South Korean police say the attacker screamed North and South Korea should be unified.
