EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man is accused of stealing $40,000 in payroll checks and depositing them in his own account.

Police say Christopher Kilkenny, of East Meadow, was employed by EZ Bath in Freeport when the nearly two dozen checks were stolen.

They say the alleged theft occurred between February 2014 and Jan. 3.

He was charged on Tuesday with possession of a forged instrument and grand larceny.
