GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A man who crashed his vehicle in western Colorado, then allegedly told emergency workers he had just killed his wife has been released from the hospital and officially arrested.

The Glenwood Springs Post Independent reports (https://bit.ly/1zM3Rze ) 46-year-old Arturo Navarrete-Portillo appeared in court Wednesday for the stabbing death of his wife, 30-year-old Maria Carminda Portillo-Amaya.

Investigators say Navarrete-Portillo rear-ended an empty cattle truck outside of Carbondale on Feb. 16 and was being airlifted to the hospital when he allegedly told the medical helicopter crew that he had killed his wife in an apartment building.

Deputy public defender Sara Steele said Wednesday much of the information about the case has been sealed. The arrest warrant and affidavit will be made available to the defense but remain sealed to the public.
