MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) - A southern New Jersey mom who allegedly jumped into the ocean with her month-old child last year has been indicted on attempted murder and aggravated assault charges.

Atlantic County prosecutors say the indictment against 23-year-old Patricia Shurig, of Atlantic City, was handed up Wednesday by a county grand jury. She faces 30 years in prison if convicted on both counts.

Witnesses said Shurig was holding the baby when she jumped into the ocean from an Atlantic City jetty on Oct. 26. They were soon pulled from the water by bystanders who were assisted by Coast Guard personnel.

Both Shurig and the baby were taken to a hospital for treatment and have since recovered.

Shurig remains free on $100,000 bail. A telephone number for her could not be located Wednesday night.
