GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - Campbell County commissioners have approved the appointment of a new special prosecutor to investigate former Sheriff Bill Pownall.

The new special prosecutor is Teton County deputy prosecutor Keith Gingery, who served 10 years in the Wyoming Legislature representing Teton County before retiring last year.

The Gillette News Record reports (https://bit.ly/1w3lwXO ) that Gingery will look into whether Pownall, when he was sheriff, ordered a drunken driving ticket against his 23-year-old son be reduced to a lesser charge.

Pownall did not seek re-election as sheriff last year, but won a state House seat.

Gingery is the second special prosecutor in the case. Carbon County Attorney Cal Rerucha was the first, but he resigned in January, expressing frustration with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
