PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix voters will be deciding whether to increase the city’s sales tax to pay for a wide-ranging transportation approved by the City Council.

Officials said the sales tax question is expected to be on the city’s August ballot.

The plan approved by the council on a 6-3 vote Tuesday includes expanding bus and light rail service and upgrading streets.

The proposed sales tax increases of three-tenths of 1 percent would amount to 30 cents on a $100 purchase.
