LYBURN, W.Va. (AP) - The rain-swollen Guyandotte River has washed away a temporary causeway in Logan County.

The causeway connecting Madison Creek and Neibert Bottom was ripped apart Wednesday. The causeway had been used as temporary access while work continued on a nearby road where a mudslide occurred in December 2013.

The road had been open only for emergency access while contractors continued to shore up the hillside above where the mudslide occurred. Department of Transportation spokeswoman Carrie Bly says the road is expected to be opened by Thursday to give residents a way to get through the area.
