TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Officials in Toledo have chosen replacements to fill two city council roles vacated by the new mayor in Ohio’s fourth-largest city.

Paula Hicks-Hudson was sworn in last month after Mayor D. Michael Collins suffered cardiac arrest and later died. Hicks-Hudson had served as the city council’s president and District 4 representative.

Council member Steven Steel was chosen Tuesday as its new president. He says he’ll take a leave of absence from his role as Lucas County Democratic Party Chairman to dispel any appearance of partisanship.

The owner of a small boat company was picked for the vacant district seat. The Blade newspaper reports the new member, Scott Ramsey, is a political independent.
