CHICAGO (AP) - A 19-year-old suburban Chicago man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison in a beating death prosecutors say occurred when a fight at a party spun out of control.

The DuPage County state’s attorney’s office says a judge sentenced Anthony Rios on Tuesday after the West Chicago man pleaded guilty to one count of armed violence.

The victim was 22-year-old Thomas Tecuatl, of Wheaton. A dispute broke out at a party in that Chicago suburb in November, 2013. Prosecutors say multiple individuals chased Tecuatl as he fled, then caught up with him when he slipped and fell.

Rios and two co-defendants allegedly returned to the party after the beating. A resident found Tecuatl’s body on his front lawn hours later.

Criminal proceedings against the other two suspects are ongoing.
