BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Kern County prosecutors have filed new sex charges against a 20-year-old man whose previous trial was negated by accusations that the prosecutor fabricated evidence.

The district attorney’s office says Efraim Velasco-Palacios is accused of unlawful sexual intercourse and lewd acts on a child. Prosecutors believe the victim, who they say is a 14-year-old from Taft, is pregnant with Palacios’ child.

Palacios was previously charged in 2013. KBAK-TV reported this week (https://bit.ly/1DQdpht ) that the two sides were working on a plea deal when the public defender discovered that prosecutor Robert Murray added a false confession to an interview transcript that was being used as evidence.

The case was dismissed on account of Murray’s actions.

Palacios’ new trial is scheduled to begin April 6.

The California Bar Association has begun disbarment proceedings against Murray.
