CINCINNATI (AP) - A 16-year-old boy accused of trying to steal Nike sneakers from an Ohio mall shopper who fatally shot another teen will face adult criminal charges.

The boy has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and robbery. A defense attorney says the boy is innocent.

The case stems from a Dec. 20 shooting outside the Dayton Mall. Miami Township police say three boys accosted two shoppers leaving the mall after buying limited-edition Air Jordan sneakers. Authorities say one teen showed a gun and a shopper who had a concealed-weapons permit fatally shot him.

The shopper was determined to have acted in self-defense.

The 16-year-old’s attorney says a trial in adult court will better serve his client. The boy is being held with a $100,000 bond. The case will go to grand jury.
