GRAY, La. (AP) - The new Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter is moving closer to reality after the parish advertised last week for project bids.

The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1DNn2eh ) bids are expected to be completed by March 31. Parish officials say construction on the building, which will be part of the Terrebonne Government Complex near U.S. 90 in Gray, should begin by early May and be completed within nine months.

Roughly $1 million of the project budget comes from the Houma Terrebonne Public Trust Financing Authority and state construction money. The remainder will be paid for with local tax dollars.

The base bid for the project is estimated at $2.68 million.
