GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - State agents have charged a second former Greenville County deputy with taking money and other items to tip off an illegal gambler about police activity.

State Law Enforcement Division agents charged 46-year-old David Hayes with misconduct in office on Thursday.

SLED says Hayes told convicted gambling den operator Izzat Khalil about planned raids and other police activity in 2012 and 2013.

Earlier this week, SLED agents accused former deputy Brendan Shea Smith of similar crimes for five years.

Khalil turned on the two deputies to win a shorter federal prison sentence for running illegal gambling operations.

It wasn’t known if Hayes had a lawyer.
