ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Full-time drivers for the bus system that serves Aspen and Glenwood Springs are unionizing.

The Aspen Times ( ) reported Thursday that 65 drivers voted in favor of joining the Amalgamated Transit Union and 22 voted against. About 30 drivers didn’t participate in the mail election.

The ballots were counted in Denver under the supervision of the state labor division.

Union supporters say pay for drivers for the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority should reflect the high cost of living in the resort area.

Starting pay for drivers was increased to $18 per hour this winter.
