BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Burlington police officer and his dog are being honored as the police K-9 Patrol Team of the Year.

Cpl. Trent Martin and his dog Capone were honored last month at the annual meeting of the Vermont Police K-9 Program.

Burlington Police Chief Michael Schirling says Martin and Capone responded to a number of calls in 2014, including apprehending suspects in a burglary and an attempted murder stabbing case.

Schirling says there are about 40 K-9 patrol teams in Vermont. Burlington police have three teams.

The Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/1DWfto9 ) reports the police department’s K-9 teams will perform demonstrations at the department’s Community Barbecue and Open House in May.
