DAVENPORT, Va. (AP) - Crews are searching for a man after floodwaters swept a car away in Buchanan County.

Virginia State Police tell media outlets that the man and another person were in the car when it ran into high water on State Route 80 around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The other person escaped from the car before it was swept away.

State police say the water remains high and fast-moving, hindering the search.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says flooding and slides have closed roads across Southwest Virginia.
