BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A man found not guilty in the death of his 5-week-old son in 2009 says he’s been able to move on with his life, but is still facing a legal fight in the case.

Russ Van Vleck tells the Bennington Banner (https://bit.ly/Jea059) for years he had nightmares about the death of his son, Colin. He and his wife, who have two children, nearly divorced.

He pleaded not guilty to manslaughter. Prosecutors said he caused Colin’s death. Defense experts testified Colin suffered brain-related birth defects from an especially hard labor that caused him medical problems and culminated in a medical event that killed him.

The 32-year-old Van Vleck was placed on a Vermont state child abuse registry. He faces a hearing this month on whether he will be removed from it.
