SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah Gov. Gary Herbert is ordering flags flown at half-staff Monday in honor of the only female mayor in the history of Salt Lake City, Deedee Corradini.

Herbert said Thursday she served admirably, and played an important role in bringing the Winter Olympics to the state in 2002.

Corradini died Sunday at her home in Park City from the effects of lung cancer at age 70.

She served as mayor from 1992-2000, and later became president of Women’s Ski Jumping USA, where she helped lead a push to get women’s ski jumping in the Olympics for the first time at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

The U.S. and Utah flags will be lowered at all state facilities from sunrise to sunset Monday.
