BENTON, La. (AP) - Authorities say a Facebook tip has helped lead to the identity of a victim found stabbed to death in Louisiana’s woods 34 years ago.

Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington confirmed Thursday the identity as 17-year-old Carol Ann Cole, of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The Times reports (https://bit.ly/1DQs6OQ ) Cole’s remains were found Jan. 28, 1981, on a rural logging road near Princeton. The mystery of her identity was solved after the sheriff’s office created a Facebook page for “Bossier Doe” in February, using a reconstructive composite drawing by the LSU FACES lab depicting what the woman might look like now.

Days after the page’s launch, Whittington said, Cole’s family contacted his office.

Meanwhile, the investigation into Cole’s killer is ongoing.

Whittington says he intends to use social media to solve other cases.
