STERLING, Alaska (AP) - The body of a missing ice fisherman has been recovered from Hidden Lake on the Kenai Peninsula.

Alaska State Troopers say 45-year-old David Riss of Sterling was found Wednesday floating in open water.

Riss and two other Sterling residents, 47-year-old Arthur Fena and 44-year-old Herbert Middleton, reached the lake at 4 p.m. Tuesday in a van.

Two hours later, Riss left in the van to fish on another part of the lake. When he didn’t return, Fena and Middleton walked to find him but broke through ice.

They were able to pull themselves out and start a warming fire at their camp.

They called troopers the next morning when a cellphone began working.

Riss’ body was found on the northwest side of the lake. The van was not found.
