PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A new 32-story skyscraper planned for the Portland’s Lloyd District won’t follow state building codes to withstand an earthquake.

The Oregonian reports (https://bit.ly/1M8Yxgb ) the American Assets Trust tower will be the first in the city to follow an alternative peer review process.

Developers and engineers expect to prove through computer simulations their design will hold up as well as the building code specifications.

The peer review process allows for faster, less expensive construction with more flexibility for the interior design.
