MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The parents of a University of Minnesota student killed in a motorcycle crash are pushing for tougher penalties for those who drive carelessly.

UMN marching band member Robert Brau was killed last summer in Wright County when a teen driver crossed the center line and struck him. The teen was charged with misdemeanor careless driving and apologized to the Brau family in court Wednesday.

WCCO-TV (https://cbsloc.al/18Tgtiv ) reports the victim’s mother, Donna Brau, says her son was an only child and loved music. He played multiple instruments and was in the band’s brass section.

Terry and Donna Brau are asking legislators to make careless driving penalties match those of drunken driving.
