DAMASCUS, Va. (AP) - A southwest Virginia auction house is auctioning off a portrait of the widow of folk hero frontiersman Davy Crockett.

The Bristol Herald Courier (https://bit.ly/1wIBN56 ) reports that Alan Shope of A-OK Auction Co. will put the portrait of Elizabeth Patton Crockett on the auction block Saturday in Damascus, Virginia.

Born in 1788, Elizabeth Patton grew up in North Carolina. She married Crockett in 1815.

Shope says the oil painting was discovered at the old Patton house in Asheville, North Carolina.

The auctioneer says museums have expressed interest in the painting since it was consigned to the auction house in December.

Crockett represented Tennessee in the U.S. Congress and died at the Battle of the Alamo.
