LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (AP) - Lake Havasu City police say human remains found by hikers are those of a young man who had been reported missing.

Police say DNA was critical to identifying the remains of 18-year-old James Gunnell.

His family had reported him missing Aug. 1 after he hadn’t been seen or heard from in several days.

The Today’s News-Herald newspaper (https://goo.gl/aPlU25) in Lake Havasu City reports that Gunnell’s remains, and his wallet and backpack were found in a wash in October.

Police continue their investigation into the cause of death.
