HERSHEY, Pa. (AP) - Fewer than 30 minutes had elapsed in the opening round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AAA Wrestling Championships, and a returning state champion has already lost.

Bethlehem Catholic’s Jake Reigel, a PIAA Class AA champion last year for Bethlehem Catholic at 106 pounds was forced to default due to injury with 8 seconds remaining.

Reigel, whose school moved up to Class AAA this year after winning the last three Class AA team titles at states, was leading his preliminary match against Pennridge’s Micah Visuwan when he pulled a muscle and could not continue.

The default ruined an anticipated match between Reigel and returning Class AAA champion Spencer Lee of Franklin Regional, who won at 113 last year. Lee did defeat Reigel early this season by a 22-9 score.
