WASHINGTON (AP) - Transit agencies are canceling and modifying service as a winter storm moves into the mid-Atlantic region.

Maryland officials canceled MARC train and commuter bus service Thursday and modified light rail and subway schedules. Virginia Railway Express service is also canceled. Amtrak is running fewer Northeast Corridor trains.

The National Weather Service is calling for 6 to 10 inches of snow in central Maryland and 4 to 8 inches in the District of Columbia, northern Virginia and much of Delaware.

Metro says it will work to maintain rail service in the Washington region, but delays are possible. Metro is suspending MetroAcess paratransit service and will modify bus service.

In Delaware, DART bus service is operating regularly scheduled service, but officials say an early shutdown is likely.
