FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - A 19-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder in a shooting last month at Magnolia Mall in Florence.

Police said in a news release that Dalyn Witherspoon was arrested Thursday.

Investigators say Witherspoon shot a 24-year-old man in the leg who was trying to break up an argument at the mall on Feb. 13. The victim was not seriously injured.

Hundreds of people ran from the mall, and dozens of officers came to help the evacuation and look for suspects.

Relatives took the victim to the hospital. He was released the same night. Police say Witherspoon was able to leave without being questioned in the chaos.

Witherspoon remains in the Florence County jail. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.
