ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A 39-year-old Albuquerque man faces up to 20 months in federal prison when he’s sentenced in a money laundering and drug trafficking case stemming from a multi-agency investigation and sting operation.

Jerome Eckstein pleaded guilty in federal court in Albuquerque to a money laundering charge on Thursday.

In pleading guilty, Eckstein acknowledged receiving a large amount of cash from an undercover agent who was pretending to be a drug dealer trying to launder drug trafficking proceeds.

Eckstein acknowledged providing the agent with checks made payable to fictitious companies for work that wasn’t performed.

According to the FBI, Eckstein was among 20 defendants charged in the case.

The FBI said most of the defendants have pleaded guilty but that two have not and await trial.
