BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a 68-year-old Belleville woman has died after suffering serious injuries in a house fire.

The Belleville News-Democrat (https://bit.ly/18nrveN ) reports Nettie Agnew died early Thursday morning at a Missouri hospital. She suffered burns and smoke inhalation in the fire at her home on Wednesday.

Fire Chief Tom Pour says Agnew was in cardiac arrest when firefighters rescued her from the house. He says she also had several heart attacks Wednesday afternoon and night.

Agnew’s son, 36-year-old Alvin Pate, was in critical but stable condition at a hospital as of Thursday night. Another son, Charles Pate, wasn’t injured in the fire.

The cause of the blaze is still unknown.
