BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Federal officials are reminding travelers to double check their carry-on bags after a passenger was found with a loaded gun at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

TSA officials said in a statement that a passenger was found with the weapon and six rounds at a security checkpoint on Thursday afternoon. TSA called police who investigated the bag and weapon.

Federal officials say unloaded firearms may be packed in checked luggage if they’re in proper carrying cases and declared to the airline.
